Hop on board a historical boat ride around the riverbend that dives deep into the history of Brisbane and the many stories that have helped shape our city. Following our team’s many months of extensive research, guests on MoB’s exclusive Brisbane history boat tour will delve into stories from our city’s past, including:
• First Nations lives and experiences around the river
• Early colonial impressions on the area, convict history and early migration stories
• Contemporary and historical buildings of significance that played a part in the urban development of our city
• The Story Bridge as a major crossing point and economic boost for Brisbane during difficult times
• Flood stories throughout the history of the river
• Personalities and places linked to the river
• And more…
As well as soaking up the many fascinating stories from Museum of Brisbane’s professional tour guides, guests will experience unforgettable views of Brisbane from the river and enjoy a pit stop at one of the city’s top local breweries Sea Legs Brewing Co., operating under the iconic Story Bridge.
Starting from the lush oasis of the City Botanic Gardens pontoon, join us as we meander past convict-built structures, historic landmarks and incredible feats of engineering. Make the most of our city’s sensational summer weather and bask in the river breeze on this 3-hour tour like no other!

Duration of tour: 3 hours
Inclusions: A light cheese board at Sea Legs Brewing Co. as well as a lemonade or water onboard the boat. Guests are welcome to purchase additional food and beverages at Sea Legs Brewing Co.
Accessibility: Please note, the boat is not wheelchair accessible. The boat will stop on the beach at Kangaroo Point and guests will walk down a small set of stairs off the boat and onto the sand. Please note: The boats are supplied and operated by River To Bay Pty Ltd. Patrons will be required to sign a River to Bay indemnity form at the commencement of the tour. In line with QLD Health guidelines for outdoor tourism events, all Tides of Brisbane ticketholders aged 16 and over must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Government-approved proof of vaccination will be required in order to participate in this tour. This will come into effect on 17 December and more information can be found on the QLD Health website here.
Dependent on the weather and group size, the tours run for approximately 3 hours.
Tours will go ahead unless you are informed of a cancellation. If there is a severe weather warning, we will notify participants of cancellation and organise an alternative date. If showers or extreme heat are predicted, the tour guide may modify the route and the length of the tour.
Bring a small backpack or the like as storage space is minimal. You’ll need comfortable, casual clothes and sensible footwear is strongly recommended as there is a small walk from the beach at Kangaroo Point to Sea Legs Brewing Co. Lunch is served at an additional cost, so please bring your preferred payment method on the day. We also recommend you bring a hat and sunscreen.
In order to keep to our schedule, we ask that you arrive at the pontoon at least 15 minutes before the scheduled pick up time. If we arrive early, we’ll start boarding immediately.
Yes, the boats are equipped with a private toilet.
To access the City Botanic Gardens River Hub, there is a ramp and set of stairs. The boat is not wheelchair accessible.
