In this Learn Workshop students will embrace their voice by designing and creating their own political poster.
This workshop draws inspiration from the artworks and practice of former Artist in Resident Gordon Hookey, a renowned Australian Aboriginal artist, who makes potent work that speaks of Murri culture and activism.
Hookey’s playful banners and tableaus subvert mainstream historical narratives and integrate pop-culture and humour. His irreverent works explore politics in Australia and the global legacy of colonialism.
Workshop (1 hour)
The Posters and Politics workshop invites secondary students to work on creating their own visual language and find inspiration by contemplating source material that Hookey draws on – a collection of posters that the artist gathered over 40 years.
MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC.
