Museum of Brisbane is seeking expressions of interest from volunteers to support our newest Creative Space – Warrajamba, by MoB Artist in Residence, Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.
Volunteers will play an important role in supporting this experience through visitor engagement, invigilation and the daily care of the space. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded community while contributing to Museum of Brisbane’s welcoming visitor experience.
We welcome volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and experience, and are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment. We particularly encourage expressions of interest from First Nations peoples, individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with lived experience of disability.
Step into the world of Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, a multidisciplinary Quandamooka artist whose practice is deeply connected to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island).
During her residency, Delvene will reimagine Museum of Brisbane’s Creative Space into an interactive and immersive realm, exploring the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid. Through making, storytelling and reflection, she invites visitors to join her search for Warrajamba.
Within the Creative Space, visitors can take part in free making activities, including crafting mermaid or dugong dolly peg dolls using stamps that feature designs by Delvene—a playful way to engage with the story and the artist’s visual practice.
Throughout 2026, audiences can see Delvene in action as part of her residency and connect with her practice more deeply through community workshops and school holiday activities for children and teens.
MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC.
The Creative Space is proudly supported by Major Partner Brisbane Airport and generously supported by Ian and Cass George, and Holly and John Livingstone.
Warrajamba is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
