In Residence: Creative Series with Robert Brownhall

Spend a morning drawing Brisbane City Hall’s iconic dome with an artist who knows it from every angle.

During his residency at Museum of Brisbane, Robert Brownhall sketched Brisbane City Hall from countless vantage points – onsite, and offsite from spots across the city. In this intimate studio workshop, held to celebrate the exhibition In Residence: A Decade of Creative Practice, he’ll share the foundational drawing techniques behind that work and help you find your own way into the building’s architecture. This workshop invites you to slow down, step inside Robert’s world and see the iconic architecture from a new perspective.

All skill levels welcome. Participants are welcome to bring their own drawing materials if preferred.

Your ticket includes:

  • A hands-on morning workshop led by a celebrated artist
  • All materials and equipment provided
  • Your own sketch to take home
  • Rare, intimate access to an artist’s creative process and techniques
  • An opportunity to explore the milestone In Residence exhibition

Museum of Brisbane’s In Residence exhibition celebrates a decade of bold ideas, creativity and artistic innovation through MoB’s Artist in Residence program, generously supported by Tim Fairfax AC.

About the artist

Robert Brownhall is a South East Queensland artist whose work captures the mood, light, and architectural character of urban and coastal environments. Grounded in quick on-site drawings and memory rather than photographs, Brownhall creates evocative studio paintings that act as a “product of the mind” – favouring atmosphere and personal interpretation over replication.A 1989 Fine Art graduate of QIT, Brownhall has been represented by Philip Bacon Galleries since 2016, with work exhibited in Sydney, London, and New York. His practice frequently explores the interplay of sharp shadow, nocturnal city lights, and dramatic weather across Queensland’s built landscapes.
