MoB Makers: Painting Portraits with Tori-Jay Mordey

A step-by-step workshop

Discover your inner artist in this two-part workshop series with illustrator and artist Tori-Jay Mordey! Influenced by her Torres Strait Islander and English heritage, Tori-Jay uses portraiture to explore concepts of identity and the complexity of human emotion.

Video 1

Tori-Jay shares the basics of portraiture with some tips and techniques used in her own practice as she guides you through the process. Embark on an artistic journey with this introductory video, unpacking a range of drawing techniques, including Tori-Jay’s unique “loosey goosey” method that works for artists of all skill levels.

Video 2

This is where the magic happens! In this workshop, Tori-Jay guides you through putting your newly learned portraiture skills to the canvas as you create your own painting. Step by step, build on your drawing techniques and develop them into a finished artwork fit for your fridge. This video expands on the practices Tori-Jay introduces in the first video, so if you haven’t already watched it, go for it!
