About Gillian Mercer

Gillian Mercer is a Brisbane-based visual artist who works in three dimensions using a variety of everyday materials. Inspired by the religious retablos, homages and shrines discovered in her travels, she uses metal boxes, found objects, modelling clay, and paint to create her own quirky vignettes. Gillian has had a rich career, teaching Visual Arts in schools in Australia and overseas. Her current work focuses on creating soft organic plant forms from hard recycled materials, and you can join her in these explorations in this workshop.
