Artist in Residence: Martin Edge

Welcome to Brisbane

Martin Edge is a Queensland artist whose playful works capture moments from his everyday life, including both real and imagined adventures. His imagery draws on travel, time spent by the ocean, journeys on various forms of transport (with a particular fondness for CityCats), and observations of the cityscape. By collaging memory and imagination into vibrant compositions, Martin offers a joyful perspective that celebrates the ordinary alongside the whimsical.

For his Artist in Residence project, Martin will transform the walls of the Fairfax Gallery with a large-scale mural. Rendered in his distinct style, characterised by bright colours, flat geometric forms and iconic Australian landmarks, the mural will present two scenes of Brisbane City.

Visitors can catch a rare glimpse of the award-winning artist in situ as the murals take shape across three weeks from 27 April to 16 May. Martin will be painting and engaging with audiences between 10am-2pm (times may vary) on:

  • Wednesday 29 April – Saturday 2 May
  • Tuesday 5 May
  • Friday 8 May– Saturday 9 May
  • Wednesday 13 May – Saturday 16 May

Since beginning his professional career in 2007, Edge has exhibited in over 100 group shows and 20 solo exhibitions across Australia. His award-winning works are represented in state and national collections including HOTA (Gold Coast), Parliament House Art Collection, the State Library of Queensland, and City of Moreton Bay Galleries.
