Welcome to Museum of Brisbane

Museum of Brisbane is located on Level 3 of Brisbane City Hall in King George Square. Holding a significant place in the hearts of Brisbane residents as the ‘People’s Place’ City Hall is Brisbane’s premier heritage building.

Public Holiday Opening Hours

Museum of Brisbane is closed for Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December), New Year’s Day (1 January) and Good Friday (18 April).

Museum of Brisbane is open from 1:30pm on ANZAC Day (25 April).

Museum of Brisbane is open on all other Public Holidays from 10:00am–5:00pm.

Location

Museum of Brisbane
Level 3, Brisbane City Hall, King George Square, Brisbane.
Entry is free.

Enter through the King George Square foyer of City Hall.
Turn right and take the lifts up to Level 3.

Please note you cannot access the Museum via stairs.

Group bookings

If you book for a group of 10 or more, our Museum team will be on hand to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Our team can personalise your tour,  introduce your group to the current exhibitions and museum facilities, highlight artworks and stories of interest and answer all of your questions. We can also provide you with exhibition brochures and related materials to use during your visit.

Conditions of Entry

WELCOME TO MUSEUM OF BRISBANE
We’re so glad you’re here.

All visitors and members of the public have a responsibility for their own health and safety and must ensure their actions do not affect the safety of others. For the safety of artworks and objects on display and of other visitors, it is a requirement that all visitors and members of the public accept and comply with our Conditions of Entry and follow any directions from Museum staff.

General Courtesy & Safety

  • Please take care of your own wellbeing and be mindful of others around you.
  • Please conduct yourself in a manner which, in the reasonable opinion of Museum staff, does not interfere with, disrupt or offend others, including MoB staff.
  • Our staff are here to help. Feel free to ask questions or let us know if something’s not quite right.

Group Visits

Respecting Artworks, Objects & the Space

  • You’re welcome to engage with interactive works, but please don’t touch anything not clearly marked.
  • No food or drink, except enclosed bottled water.
  • No smoking or vaping anywhere inside the Museum.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Prams and strollers are welcome. Just take care to avoid artworks, objects or other visitors.
  • Guide Dogs and other registered assistance are welcome. Other animals are not permitted.

Bags & Belongings

  • Backpacks, large bags, helmets, and umbrellas can’t be brought into the Museum as they may cause damage to artworks or objects, or block pathways. Free lockers are available.
  • Museum of Brisbane staff have the right to refuse storage of over-sized bags such as suitcases due to limited space and safety in the Museum.
  • The Museum does not permit spruiking, the unapproved distribution of printed material or merchandise, or the unapproved display of audio-visual materials.

Photography

  • Feel free to take photos (unless signage says otherwise), but:
    • No flash photography
    • No selfie sticks

The Museum reserves the right to:

  • Exclude or remove any person from the Museum at its discretion if safety, comfort, or enjoyment of the space is at risk.
  • Inspect any bag, luggage or object, however described, upon entry to and before leaving the Museum
  • Photograph, film or record events and activities taking place on Museum premises for reporting, archival and promotional purposes.
  • Use Security Closed Circuit Television cameras throughout the Museum (for more information, see the Museum’s Information Privacy Statement).

Transport and Parking

Public Transport

BUS

There are a number of buses that stop along Adelaide Street and Ann Street as well as many services which stop in King George Square and Queen Street bus terminals, located a short walk from City Hall.

TRAIN

Museum of Brisbane is a 10-minute walk from Central and Roma Street train stations.

Private Transport and Parking

CAR PARKING

There is undercover paid parking available in King George Square car park with entrances on Adelaide Street and Roma Street.

There are a number of bike paths and bike racks located in the city. For more information about bike paths and bike parking, visit Brisbane City Council’s website.

Lockers

Museum of Brisbane has a small number of lockers where visitors can cloak their bags.

Please note, these lockers do not fit large suitcases and we are not able to mind these for you.  We recommend dropping suitcases off at luggage facilities near City Hall in Queen Street Mall.
