The new MoB Shop will showcase local creatives and uniquely Brisbane gifts. Museum of Brisbane (MoB) will enhance its popular retail offering with an additional MoB Shop opening on the Ground Floor of Brisbane City Hall in December 2026. The new store will complement the Museum’s much-loved MoB Shop on Level 3, which already welcomes thousands of customers every week.
The expanded MoB retail offering taps into rising demand for Brisbane-themed specialty gifts and locally made merchandise, and bolsters City Hall and the Museum as must-visit destinations in the lead up to Brisbane 2032.
Designed by Clare Design & JDA Co., the new MoB Shop connects the bustle of King George Square to the heritage-listed interiors of City Hall, encompassing a 40sqm light-filled retail space and adjacent lobby area.
Featuring mirrored windows and doorways, architectural light fittings and bespoke cabinetry, the contemporary store fit-out provides an inspiring backdrop to spotlight handmade gifts and treasures by Brisbane artists and artisans.
The ground-floor MoB Shop will focus on uniquely Brisbane souvenirs, covetable gifts and one-of-a-kind items, such as locally made jewellery and homewares, created by local makers, artists and designers.
Visitors can take home meaningful mementos at varied price points, ranging from stationery items such as printed postcards, magnets, tea towels and stickers to local food, ceramics, jewellery, books and other Brisbane-themed keepsakes.
Brisbane brands and artists available at the MoB Shop include Jesse Irwin, Debra Hood, Phoebe Paradise, Busy Head, Denz and Green Bird Ceramics, to name a few.
Museum of Brisbane will also collaborate with local makers, such as Paper Boat Press, Martin Edge, Jesse Irwin and Forge Forward (Amy Crow), to develop exclusive products for the ground-floor retail space and deepen its partnerships with existing artists and designers.
The additional space will also allow Museum of Brisbane to expand existing product ranges to meet audience demand, particularly for First Nations, children’s and MoB collection products.
Meanwhile, the current Level 3 MoB Shop will evolve to promote a more curated product range with a greater emphasis on art, design, books, exhibition merchandise and heritage-themed pieces, including items celebrating the iconic City Hall.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the new MoB Shop was a fantastic way to celebrate Brisbane’s creative talent.
“Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and we have an incredible community of local artists, designers and makers creating things you won’t find anywhere else,” Cr Schrinner said.
“The new MoB shop puts their work front and centre, giving thousands of people who visit City Hall each week the chance to discover something made right here in Brisbane.
“Whether you’re looking for a gift on your lunch break or something uniquely Brisbane to take home, there’ll be plenty to discover. It’s another way we’re backing local talent and creating more to see and do in the heart of Brisbane.”
Museum of Brisbane CEO & Director Zoe Graham said the new MoB Shop taps into a clear interest in products that tell a distinctly Brisbane story.
“MoB Shop has become a destination in its own right with thousands of customers each week as demand for locally made, beautifully designed and genuinely unique products grow,” Ms Graham said.
“Opening a second MoB Shop on the Ground Floor in December will allow us to meet that demand while making the Museum’s retail offering even more accessible to visitors and the wider Brisbane community.
“Expanding MoB Shop is also an important way for Museum of Brisbane to support our creative community. By providing more space for locally made products, we can champion more artists, makers and designers and help connect their work with an even wider audience.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity of Brisbane while contributing to the city’s thriving cultural and retail landscape,” she said.
Architect Tamarind Taylor, representing Clare Design and JDA Co., said their goal was to “create a retail experience that sits comfortably within the heritage of Brisbane City Hall while feeling fresh and contemporary. The neutral palette and mirrored detailing enhance light, space and openness, creating an inviting backdrop for a curated collection of local and designer products.”
