Get positively potty with this hands-on paper collage activity inspired by Clay!

Inspired by the colourful creations of Bonnie Hislop, we’re inviting you to push the idea of pottery to impossible heights!

Join us these school holidays and get ready to go potty for this interactive collage activity which is all about stretching your imagination to the limits. Will your pot have ten tentacles and a moustache? A rainbow cat? With paper, pen and glue, let your ideas fly.

The best part? Bonnie Hislop herself will choose a winning impossible pot to bring to life and gift to the creator.

Competition Terms and Conditions

Introduction

The following terms and conditions outline the guidelines and rules that need to be followed in order to participate in the Museum of Brisbane (MoB) “Impossible Pots” competition. This competition is open to residents in Queensland, Australia. By submitting an entry to this competition, you agree to all the terms and conditions stated below.

Activity Overview

This Winter School Holidays (Saturday 24th June– Sunday 9th July, 2023) Museum of Brisbane visitors are invited to go positively potty as they craft an out-of-this-world Impossible Pot.
Inspired by the work of prominent Brisbane ceramicist Bonnie Hislop currently on display in Clay: Collected Ceramics, and using everyday craft materials, participants will create their own inventive paper pot design. Taking the fun a step further, at the conclusion of the school holidays, The Judges will select one submitted ‘impossible design’ to bring to life as an actual ceramic pot, with the winning designer getting to keep the pot upon completion.

Eligibility

  1. The competition is open to individuals under 18 years of age who are permanent residents of Queensland, Australia, and able to collect the winning Impossible Pot in person from Museum of Brisbane
  2. Each participant is allowed to enter only one submission for the competition.
  3. The submission should be an original creation and not a copy of an existing design or artwork.

Submission Guidelines

  1. To participate in the competition, participants are required to submit a design of an “Impossible Pot” made at Museum of Brisbane during the Impossible Pots event.
  2. Entries must be submitted in person at Museum of Brisbane, during the submission period between Saturday 24th June and Sunday 9th July 2023, by leaving the completed design with a member of Museum of Brisbane staff and submitting the contact details of a parent or guardian that is 18 years or older via the submission form
  3. Entries must be received by the closing of the Impossible Pots event on Sunday 9th July, 2023, at 1:30pm.

Selection of Winner

  1. Ceramicist Bonnie Hislop, an exhibiting artist in the Clay: Collected Ceramics exhibition, and a representative from Museum of Brisbane, The Judges, will be responsible for selecting one winner of the competition based on the submitted entries.
  2. The Judges will review submitted entries submitted during the submission period and select a winner based on creativity and ingenuity. The winner will be determined at The Judge’s discretion.
  3. The winner will be announced on the Museum of Brisbane Instagram on 14th July 2023.
  4. The winner will be contacted via phone or email.
  5. The selected winner will receive their “Impossible Pot”, which will be recreated in ceramic by Bonnie Hislop, once the pot has been completed within three months of the submission closing date.

Important Dates

  1. The deadline for submission of entries is 1:30PM, on Sunday 9th July, 2023.
  2. The winner will be announced on the Museum of Brisbane Instagram account on 14th July 2023.
  3. The winner will receive their recreated Impossible Pot, and their original entry design in person at Museum of Brisbane from the Artist and a representative from MoB at a date to be determined upon the completion of the artwork by the Artist, within three months of the submission closing date The winner will be photographed and/or filmed for promotional purposes during this event.

Intellectual Property

  1. By submitting an entry to the competition, participants are granting permission for their design to be used in any promotional material related to the competition.
  2. The participants own the copyright to their design submission, however, by entering the competition, participants agree to allow Bonnie Hislop to recreate the design in ceramic in order to present it to the winner.
  3. Bonnie Hislop will retain the intellectual property rights to the ceramic “Impossible Pot” she creates.

 

Privacy Policy

  1. All personal information collected during the competition will be kept confidential and will not be shared with any third-party without the participant’s consent.
  2. By participating in the competition, participants agree to allow the organisers of the competition to use their name, photograph, and submission entry for promotional purposes.

Jurisdiction
These terms and conditions will be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Queensland, Australia, and any disputes arising will be subjected to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland, Australia.

Conclusion
By entering the “Impossible Pot” competition, participants agree to abide by the above-stated terms and conditions. Any breach of these terms and conditions will result in disqualification of the participant. The organizers reserve the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
