Public Art Walking Tour

Monuments, masterpieces, or so much more?

From grand 90-year-old carvings to tiny whimsical additions in city laneways, Brisbane’s streets are home to an array of art for the public to observe. Step beyond the gallery space and join Museum of Brisbane on a guided tour that reminds us to look up, down and all around.

View monuments, memorials and commissioned works, as well as impermanent and unsanctioned pieces that have been added to Brisbane’s shared public spaces over the last century.

Often hiding in plain sight, these works share tales of the city, its people and contemporary cultures. Examine the representations inherent in some and controversies associated with others. Be challenged by the changing meanings and dialogues that these works provoke and discuss what they might mean now and into the future.
