What is SUNNIE?

SUNNIE is a bi-annual lifestyle magazine celebrating Brisbane and its people. Issue #2 is set to hit stands from 4 November and is packed with must-read articles, curiosities and creative stories.

Included in Issue #2 are features on Gail Sorronda, Troy Cassar-Daly, Dead Puppet Society and Circa’s Yaron Lifschitz, as well as articles focusing on Brisbane’s Pioneering Female Pilots, the suburbs of Moorooka and Paddington, and the artistic exploration of The Paint Factory.

Both ‘about’ and ‘by‘ Brisbane’, SUNNIE showcases the city’s rich talent of writers, photographers, authors, artists and designers, and is proudly published by Museum of Brisbane. It celebrates the city’s vibrant creativity through in-depth storytelling taking readers on a deep dive to understand Brisbane today. Support local creatives by grabbing a copy!

SUNNIE is published in Brisbane, Australia, on the traditional lands of the Yuggera, Turrbal, Yuggarrapul, Jinabara, Quandamooka and neighbouring clan groups. We pay our respect to their ancestors and elders—past, present and future.

We thought SUNNIE was Brisbane’s biggest fan but then we sat down with author Trent Dalton (@trentdaltonauthor)…

In Issue #2, ahead of his latest book, Love Stories, SUNNIE sat down with Trent to chat about his experience of listening to the stories of strangers at a makeshift desk, with a typewriter, in Brisbane city. He says in doing so he learned more, “maybe more than I did writing Boy Swallows Universe and All Our Shimmering Skies”, says Trent.

SUNNIE Magazine goes on sale 4 Nov.

SUNNIE Magazine Issue #2 hits local bookstores, gallery shops and online sites from 4 Nov.

There was a time where people would have scoffed at the idea of Brisbane having a rich food culture.

Risky, brave and certainly far from boring, Kate Flamsteed gives SUNNIE readers a tastes of Brisbane’s diverse food culture for Issue #2.

In her exploration of the city’s diverse palette, Kate chats to celebrated French chef Thierry Galichet (@lacacheavin), sisters Meghan and Zoe Tulleners of West End’s beloved Alphabet Café (@alphabetcafe), Indigenous chef Chris Jordan (@threelittlebirdsbne), Yuwaalaraay and Kooma chef Dale Chapman as well as Sarah Scott (@joyrestaurant).
