On Absence and Erasure

Art and art history have largely rendered women artists invisible, as seen in their lack of representation in exhibitions, museum collections and, perhaps most notably, books.

Join a discussion curated by Louise Martin-Chew, that delves into the ways in which Brisbane artists have been rendered absent and examine modes of erasure. Hear from New Woman artists, including Dr. Fiona Foley and Marian Drew, as they discuss their experiences, which include the further marginalisation of age, Indigeneity and ethnicity.

The panel will also look at how these artists used infrastructure and support networks to create their own seat at the table.
