Join Karen Donnelly, Raimond de Weerdt and Tony Nott of Facing Australia to discover the people and process behind the filmic experience, and how they created the faces of the First World War.

Meet the artists

Facing World War One: Stories of loyalty, loss and love reveals intimate and untold stories from the First World War by tracing the letters, poems and accounts of Brisbane soldiers and their families. Karen, Raimond and Tony will explore how they approached capturing the voices of enlisted soldiers, and the loved ones left behind in Brisbane, for the filmic experience in Facing World War One.

The trio will also discuss the two composite portraits, Face of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) and the Face of the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS), created specially for the exhibition as a representation of all men and women who served in the war.
