Brisbane artist Maria Field leads a hands-on workshop “en plein air” for participants to master the art of watercolour.

En plein air watercolour workshop

Regarding her work, Field says, “Watercolour is so alluring, fresh, luminous and exciting and I never tire of its fluid seduction and spontaneity.”

William Bustard interpreted Brisbane’s distinctive sense of light and portrayed the unique characteristics of our city through his watercolour paintings. Maria demonstrates to participants how to master similar techniques to create captivating landscapes and visual chronicles of Brisbane.

Participants will conquer the ‘where do I start!?’ question and learn how to simplify the scene. Focal points, drawing, colour choices, tone, light and shadows, counter change, depth and texture will be covered.

Maria Field is a Brisbane artist who delights in creating colourful, clean, transparent watercolours. Her work has featured in five editions of Australian Artist magazine since 2010.  Maria has won over 59 awards for her work since 2003, has been commissioned by the Lord Mayor’s Office to do a watercolour painting of Brisbane and has four paintings in the Ipswich Council Art Gallery collection.
