An insight into the vibrant imaginations and inspirations of 11 Brisbane based children’s book illustrators was the subject of the exhibition.

Brillustration: Children's book illustration in Brisbane

Featured illustrators were Kerry Argent, Jonathan Bentley, David Cox, Stella Danalis, Armin Greder, Chris McKimmie, Narelle Oliver, Ben Redlich, Gregory Rogers, Bronwyn Searle and Glen Singleton who all live and work in Brisbane.

The illustrations featured in the exhibition are familiar to many children from renowned books such as Too Loud Lily by Sofie Laguna and Kerry Argent (Omnibus Books, 2002), Dorothy the Dinosaur and the Magic Shell by Jonathan Bentley (ABC Books, 1999), and The Boy, The Bear, The Baron, The Bard by Gregory Rodgers (Allen and Unwin, 2006).

The Discovery Room also featured Tools of the Illustrator to compliment this show displaying the eccentric personal objects of an illustrator such as familiar pens, paints, pencils, papers and more unusual tools for creative processes.
