Anzac Day: Artist talk with Greer Townshend
To commemorate Anzac Day 2020, join us for a virtual artist talk with Brisbane-based artist Greer Townshend as she discusses her work and most recent project Here I Came to the Very Edge. This project is a response to Greer’s 2017 Q ANZAC 100 Fellowship at the State Library of Queensland and is currently included in the Museum of Brisbane’s online exhibition Remembering the First World War.
Greer’s Fellowship explored the experiences of servicepeople and soldiers from the First World War using original letters, diaries and photographs from the State Library of Queensland collection. Greer translates and activates these stories into paper-based miniature worlds illuminated by soft light. Charcoal, origami (paper-folding), (paper-cutting) and paper cut light boxes present ethereal portraits conveying a sense of fragility and memory, creating a space for intimate reflection.
To facilitate this conversation, Greer will be joined by independent curator and writer and fellow State Library of Queensland Fellowship participant Tess Maunder as they discuss Greer’s practice, project and developing ideas. To join the event, simply book in, and you will receive a unique code and link prior to the event via email.
