Artist-in-Residence: Tyza Stewart

Tyza Stewart is a Brisbane-based visual artist working across painting, video and sculpture. Their continued practice explores self-portraiture, drawing on experimentation with perceptions of gender.

During their residency, the artist encouraged visitors to consider gender: specifically, gender as experiences and as ways of understanding self that are not necessarily tied to gender norms.

As part of their residency, Tyza developed a new work Floating Near the River (2019), now on display at Museum of Brisbane.

The Artist-in-Residence program is supported by Mr Tim Fairfax AC.
