Country comes to town
Gift of Pamela Guy 2014, Museum of Brisbane
The Ekka is Queensland on show and there are so many great stories surrounding the event. Back in 2008, Museum of Brisbane did an exhibition called 10 Days in August: Memories of the Ekka, which shared many stories and memories of the Ekka over the past 130 years – so you know we’re Ekka fans.
Today the Ekka kicks off for another year and to add to the excitement, we have just scanned an image from the first Intercolonial Exhibition held in 1876 organised by the National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland. This image is part of an album of photos that was recently acquired for the Museum of Brisbane collection and we wanted to share this picture with you today to get the festivities under way.
