Museum of Brisbane is searching for up to 20 emerging and early career writers to participate in a pop-up writing experience as part of Brisbane Festival this September. The selected writers will have the rare opportunity to learn from Trent Dalton (Boy Swallows Universe, Love Stories) in a two-hour masterclass, before taking to the streets to apply their new skills. Over the course of two hours, the selected writers will collect love stories from locals that will be collated and shared as part of MoB’s Write your heart out immersive experience.
Please save your video and writing sample in one Dropbox or Google Drive folder and submit the link below.
If you’d like to supply your introduction in another form, please let us know via email info@museumofbrisbane.com.au. We are happy to accommodate all access requirements.
In 2021, Trent Dalton spent two months gathering stories on his sky-blue 1960s Olivetti typewriter in King George Square. Speaking with people from all walks of life, he asked them one simple question: ‘Can you please tell me a love story?’
Trent’s poignant book Love Stories is being adapted for the stage in a world-premiere production at QPAC as part of this year’s Brisbane Festival. To celebrate, Museum of Brisbane will present Write your heart out, a special participatory experience over the month of September.
“Love is a universal access point to the soul. Get any earthling from anywhere on earth talking about what they love and you will get them talking deeply about their life. Because love is life. To tell a love story is to tell a story of your life. Maybe the defining story. Pain. Glory. Rage. Regret. Sorrow. Passion. Joy. Wonder. Meaning. Love. Life. All of life can be found in a single stranger’s love story.” – Trent Dalton
