What does a day in the life of a Visitor Experience Team member look like?
As a member of the Visitor Experience team, no two days are alike. I enjoy being challenged and always thinking on my feet. With people visiting from all over Queensland, interstate and from around the world. I thrive on sharing the stories of the Museum and City Hall with everyone.
Can you tell us a bit about your personal background? What led you to your current role at MoB?
What brought me to Museum of Brisbane was a postgraduate degree in Museum Studies at The University of Queensland. I have lots of experience in customer service and presenting historical educational programs – all things I fortunately get to do every time I come to work.
What is a fun fact or secret talent we wouldn’t know about you?
I have practiced Historical European Swordsmanship for about 25 years. I have fought at medieval fairs, weddings, the Japanese news, a music video on a London rooftop in the rain, and even for a Mayor at an Italian Club in Brisbane.
What is your favourite artwork currently on display at MoB? And why?
With so much choice this is a hard question to answer however, being English I have to express a preference for Donna Marcus’ teapot sculpture in New Woman. I love that it is made from re-purposed teapots – I am always fascinated by art that re-purposes the mundane into the extraordinary.
