Slow Fashion Weekend: Sashiko

MoB’s Slow Fashion Weekend will shine a spotlight on slow fashion, artisanal skills and a make-and-mend approach to fashion consumption. Presented in partnership with Brisbane-based design collective The Stitchery, the Museum will be taken over by makers, menders and the mindful to give you the skills to lighten your fashion footprint.

Learn the ancient art of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese form of folk art stitching and add character to your clothing where there once was a flaw. Facilitated by artist Jane MacDonald, learn how to mend, reinforce and decorate fabrics you love and can’t bear to throw away. You will be taught stitching techniques, how to transfer designs onto fabric and achieve the desired ‘grain of rice’ look.
