An installation by Maureen Lander in collaboration with poets Anne Kirker and Samuel Wagan Watson
Palm Lines: Maureen Lander
Noted for their profound and ethereal beauty, Maureen Lander’s installations often reference issues of colonisation and contemporary identity. What secrets do the indigenous palms whisper? How can we unlock a hidden past?
Multimedia installation artist Maureen Lander created an inspiring relationship between nikau in the New Zealand bush and palms in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to develop this work. Weaving the words of poets Anne Kirker and Samuel Wagan Watson into a whispering ‘oracle’, Palm Lines explored separation, integration and hope, in a moving and personal way.
