Face of Brisbane brought together two seemingly unrelated disciplines – photography and statistics – to transform text-based social data into visual images.

Face of Brisbane

Face of Brisbane was a community portrait project that had been undertaken in four contrasting Brisbane suburbs; Sunnybank Hills, Nudgee Beach, St Lucia and Inala.  Relying on the cooperation of 400 residents from these four suburbs (100 residents from each suburb), portrait photographs of each selected resident were captured and used to create composite portraits of each community.  From these photographs, eight large format composite photographic portraits were created through a digital layering process to make up the images presented in the final Face of Brisbane exhibition.
