TOURS
Tours of Reveal will take visitors through the exhibition and highlight the diversity, cultural significance and value of the City of Brisbane Collection.
A variety of content is discussed on each tour, so there is something for all ages – Brisbane residents and visitors to the city alike.

SPECIAL EVENT
CARING FOR THE COLLECTION
This event will reveal a how Museum of Brisbane cares for one of our city’s greatest cultural assets, the City of Brisbane Collection. Participants will see practical demonstrations of artwork and frame preservation and restoration by a team of experts. The demonstration will conclude with a guided tour of the Reveal exhibition.

Cabinet of Curiosities
Join Museum of Brisbane and members from Brisbane’s Living Heritage Network for this series of talks and events that will further illuminate the objects and stories contained within Cabinet of Curiosities. Visitors will have the opportunity to dig deeper into different aspects of our city’s history.
MISSION OF MERCY
Explore and understand some of Cabinet of Curiosities’ most intriguing religious objects with Peter Connell, Director of the Mercy Heritage Centre. Joining Peter will be special guest Sister Anne Hetherington, who will share fascinating stories from her religious life since joining the Sisters of Mercy in 1958.

MERCY HERITAGE CENTRE
To experience more of the incredible stories from the Mercy Heritage Centre, visit this atmospheric museum in the grounds of All Hallows’ School directly following the MoB talk. Guided tours of the Mercy Heritage Centre will start every 30 mins. Last entry at 3pm.

ALL THAT GLITTERS
Emeralds are a symbol of hope and this gem features in the beautiful Lady Bowen bracelet. Hope and support is exactly what Lady Bowen strived to provide when her husband, Sir George Bowen was appointed the first Governor of Queensland in 1859. Diana Hacker from Miegunyah House Museum (Queensland Women’s Historical Association) will share stories about the Lady Bowen bracelet and how Miegunyah came to be its place of safekeeping. Contemporary jewellery craftsman and designer Bradley Dunmar will also provide insights into the artistic process of working with gems and why the design of the Lady Bowen bracelet has remained timeless.

MIEGUNYAH HOUSE MUSEUM
Plan a visit to Miegunyah House Museum and enjoy a tour of this beautiful homestead built in 1886. Participants can enjoy morning tea with guest speaker Claire Lees, Vice-President of The Diamantina Health Care Museum who will share stories about Fred’s Shack at the ‘Gabba – the Dispenser’s House.

HITTING THE STREETS
A walking tour facilitated by the Queensland Police Museum’s Curator Lisa Jones will take participants on a journey to sites of policing and criminal significance in Brisbane’s past, including the site of the Battle of Brisbane in 1944 and the Roma Street Police Station from 1879 – 1967. The walking tour will also incorporate a visit to the Queensland Police Museum and will conclude at Museum of Brisbane where visitors will learn more about Peter the dog – the intriguing canine companion that assisted in finding Ernest Halliday guilty of murder in 1952.

MEDICINAL MYSTERIES
The medical field has radically changed in the last 100 years. This event, featuring Jim Nixon, Curator of the Marks Hirschfeld Museum of Medical History at University of Queensland will explore these changes and examine some of the more unusual medical practices of yesterday through the items loaned for Cabinet of Curiosities.

A QUEEN’S COLONY HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR
Celebrate Queensland Day with a walking tour exploring our state capital’s past. A Queen’s Colony will visit sites such as Old Government House, the Commissariat Store, Parliament House and the Queensland Club. The tour will conclude at Museum of Brisbane where participants can continue to uncover the past within Cabinet of Curiosities.
