Cabinet of Curiosities

What at first may appear as bewildering diversity, in fact highlights the range and richness of treasures that are available to the cultural explorer who makes the time to visit some of the lesser known cultural jewel in our city. To encourage you to begin that exploration and to give you a taste of what is available we have brought together this eclectic and fascinating group of objects. Although as a group they at first appear to have little connection, if you delve deeper it becomes apparent that the stories these objects tell are all stories about our city and its people.

This exhibition was developed in collaboration with members of Brisbane’s Living Heritage Network which is a coalition of around eighty cultural and heritage sites spread throughout the greater Brisbane area. These organisations engage in the preservation and interpretation of the history and cultural heritage of Brisbane and its surrounding suburbs. Network members include museums, historic houses, memorials, historical society’s archives and libraries.
