Brisbane Boarding Houses

Boarding houses have existed in Brisbane since the earliest days of European settlement and once dominated inner city suburbs such as Spring Hill and South Brisbane This exhibition explored the particular culture of communal living that exists in four Brisbane boarding houses.

Brisbane Boarding Houses

Comprising of photographs and story panels, the exhibition revealed some personal stories, the sense of community and affordability of the housing arrangements at the Anglican Women’s Hostel in New Farm, Pindari Women’s Hostel in Spring Hill, Franklin Court in West End and Green Meadow Court in Mount Gravatt.

Board and Shelter was created by Museum of Brisbane with photographer Daniela Flynn and writer Hamish Sewell.
