Who was Alfred Elliott?
Alfred Elliott was born in Devon, England, in 1870. He arrived in Brisbane aboard the Gauntlet in 1876 with his parents and fi ve siblings. Little is known of his early life.
Alfred Elliott worked in Brisbane as a civil servant in a variety of roles – his profession was listed as a law clerk in 1899, professional shorthand writer in 1900 and a bank clerk in 1905. His passion for photography is evident in the wide range of subjects captured in his work – providing a wonderful glimpse into his life in Brisbane at the turn of last century.
