Sunday Stories | South Brisbane Square, 1976

The view of Victoria Bridge and Brisbane City from South Brisbane Square.

In 1963 Brisbane City Council established a small park between Stanley Street and the river opposite South Brisbane Station. This area was known as “South Brisbane Square” and provided a small public park and recreational area in an otherwise largely industrial landscape. The park was reassigned as part of the planned Cultural Centre which began preliminary construction of QPAC in 1976. We are certainly glad the area was photographed extensively at the time! Can you see Brisbane City Hall?
