Helen Taylor Theatre

Enjoy a sense of Brisbane’s past in MoB’s Helen Taylor Theatre.

This multimedia space has three screens showing short film clips and silent images called Faces, Places and Stories of Brisbane.

This program is on a continuous loop and features short film clips of interviews with Brisbane residents, and a silent slideshow of images from Brisbane history.

The film clips feature 20 Brisbane residents speaking about topics related to the city’s climate, geography, origins and creativity. Interviews range from 30 seconds to three minutes long. They also include glorious archival photographs of Brisbane.

The silent slideshow presents a chronological sequence of images showing the rapid development of Brisbane – from the earliest British charts of the Brisbane River in 1826 to Australian Federation in 1901. Many of the images are glass plate photographs by Alfred Elliott, from the City of Brisbane Collection.

The Helen Taylor Theatre program is designed so that you can come and go as you please. The loop runs for approximately one hour and there is no set beginning or end to the sequence. So on any day you drop in, you could see something different.
